Schumacher reveals F1 struggles
Michael Schumacher believes the lack of in-season testing is the reason why he hasn't been a success at Mercedes yet.
The seven-time world champion has struggled badly on his return to the sport and has yet to secure a podium finish as he, and his team, continue to disappoint.
Despite making some progress with their car, Mercedes still found themselves someway off the likes of Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren in the race for top honours.
Schumacher believes his failure to elevate Mercedes' status in F1 is down to the fact that teams have cut down on the amount of testing they do during the season.
"I thought that I might be on the podium at least a couple of times," Schumacher told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
"Together we have to work hard to improve performance but we are not afraid of that. In F1 there are no magic wands.
"In the past we did a lot of testing. Today not, so I have had some problems with the tyres.
"I have not learned how to interpret them correctly.
"Previously I came to the race weekend knowing what was coming. Now the tests don't come until Friday and I am still getting used to this system." - http://www.setanta.com
